Why Masks Don’t Work

By Don Rosenberg 6/30/2020

“You must wear a mask.”

“No mask? No service.”

“Not wearing a mask is disrespectful!”

“You’re killing people if you don’t wear a mask!”

So what’s going on here? Why is there such an emphasis wearing masks?

Let’s go over the menu – N95 masks, surgical masks, and filter/cloth masks. These masks are different because they are used in different situations.

N95 masks are the ones with the port(s) on the front or sides. They are for environments that are contaminated, usually with chemical agents. They filter the air coming in, but don’t filter it going out. That means if you’re sick with COVID 19, you’re breathing contaminated air OUT to the rest of us. This directly contradicts the “reason” giving for wearing masks – “protect others.”

Surgical masks are used in sterile, surgically clean, environments, like operating rooms. They were not designed for use in the public, either indoors or outdoors. They are best for keeping the surgical area free from coughs and sneezes by the doctors and nurses.

When used outside the operating room they clog up very quickly and simply become a germ/virus petri dish. If you happen to be near someone with COVID-19, you end up collecting and spreading the virus, not containing it.

While the fears of people breathing in carbon-dioxide are not true, a damp mask does make it harder to breath. And if it’s not discarded after each use of a few hours, it can become a breeding ground for molds and bacteria, which are harmful. Symptoms include dry coughing, worsened allergy symptoms, and sore throat.

And fiddling with the uncomfortable, wet mask, means touching your face, which does spread the virus.

Cloth masks may get you into the supermarket, but they don’t filter anything. Just like surgical masks, they collect moisture and become a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.

Don’t believe me, just see what the experts said prior to the big switch in policy in April

From the CDC

“Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others. Cloth face coverings are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the cloth face covering coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. This is called source control… Caregivers may also wear a cloth face covering. However, the protective effects—how well the cloth face covering protects healthy people from breathing in the virus—are unknown.”

Coronavirus is similar to the cold or flu. What does the most respected hospital system in the country, the Mayo Clinic, say about prevention?

There are several simple steps you can take to decrease the chance of getting the flu:

  1. Get an annual vaccination. The CDC now recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone over the age of 6 months.
  2. Wash your hands. Practicing good hand hygiene not only can keep you from catching the flu, it also prevents other common infections.
  3. Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  4. Avoid crowds during peak flu season. The influenza virus spreads easily wherever people congregate — in child care centers, schools, office buildings, auditoriums and public transportation. While you don’t have to be reclusive, avoiding crowds during peak flu season can lower your chances of catching influenza. You also should stay home from work and school when ill to prevent further spread of the virus.

Here’s what they say about preventing colds

There’s no vaccine for the common cold, but you can take commonsense precautions to slow the spread of cold viruses:

  • Wash your hands.Clean your hands thoroughly and often with soap and water.
  • Disinfect your stuff.Clean kitchen and bathroom countertops with disinfectant, especially when someone in your family has a cold.
  • Use tissues.Sneeze and cough into tissues. Discard used tissues right away, then wash your hands carefully.
  • Don’t share.Don’t share drinking glasses or utensils with other family members.
  • Steer clear of colds.Avoid close contact with anyone who has a cold.
  • Choose your child care center wisely.Look for a child care setting with good hygiene practices and clear policies about keeping sick children at home.
  • Take care of yourself.Eating well, getting exercise and enough sleep, and managing stress might help you keep colds at bay.

Notice how there is no mention of face masks whatsoever in either article. Even the CDC says protection is from wearing masks is “not proven.”

But the “experts” are “mystified” why people using masks have not slowed the spread of COVID 19. There must be people who aren’t complying. “Let’s make mask use mandatory!”

So why are “the folks in charge,” the CDC, doctors Fauci and Birx, and a slew of Democrat governors now insisting on wearing face masks in public when none of the options work?

It can’t be prevention, since as recently at 3/8/2020, Dr. Fauci himself said “When it comes to preventing coronavirus, public health officials have been clear: Healthy people do not need to wear a face mask to protect themselves from COVID-19.”

“There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask,” he told 60 Minutes.

“While masks may block some droplets,” Fauci said, “they do not provide the level of protection people think they do. Wearing a mask may also have unintended consequences: People who wear masks tend to touch their face more often to adjust them, which can spread germs from their hands…” “Face masks are vital for health care providers and for patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19.”

For healthy people, both the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend they wear masks only when taking care of those who are sick or suspected of having the virus.

My only guess is that they’re trying to feed the panic and control the public. With the recent “surge” in new cases (a statistical lie, deaths are way down, see my recent article) Democrat governors and mayors are making mask usage mandatory. Businesses are forced to require masks or they can lose their license.

I don’t know what’s going on in the minds of the “folks in charge.” I do know that they’re spending a lot of energy getting people to wear masks, when they don’t work and may actually make things worse. Is their goal to spread the disease?

I do know that Democrats and other Trump opponents are desperate to win the November elections. Trump’s wildly successful economy was his ticket to four more years. Continuing the panic and depressing the economy sounds like their best shot at a close election – and we know they’re planning some big dirty tricks with their new push for “mail-in voting.” See my article here.
